Our Spring Concert this year consists of two Requiems.
Gabriel Faure composed his famous requiem between 1887 and 1890. Faure wrote “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”.
Maurice Durufle was commissioned to write his requiem in 1941 but did not complete it until 1947. It is in 9 movements compared to Faure’s 7 movements but both have soprano and baritone solos.
